Nursing care is vitally important to every family when placing their loved one. Luther Manor offers care of which we are truly proud. We put a lot of effort into this endeavor to serve our 103 residents. Approximately 70% of our 140 employees are nursing personnel - licensed registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and certified medication aids.

We are especially proud of our mentor program for which we won the Innovation of the Year Award from the Iowa Association of Home and Services to the Aging. Developed by former administrator, Mark Noble, the program assures that we can better build the confidence and skill of the new employees; and through increased longevity gain a wealth of growing expertise. Certified Nursing Assistant mentors are selected and trained to provide direction and support for new employees. So helpful is this in building the skill and effectiveness of our care that the program has been published and is being used by nursing homes nationwide.

Care with medications is another big concern. Medications are distributed by a unit dose system where each dose is in its own compartment and the box is color coded for the time of day. This way the dosage is assured and aides in the medication administration. This contributes greatly to the safety of drug distribution. In addition, we have a pharmacy consultant that regularly comes to check for drug interactions. Our goal is also to keep the number of medications and level of dosage at a level that allows the resident to function at their maximum ability. Our nurses take this very seriously.

Be assured, that turning the physical care over to Luther Manor is to everyone's benefit. One is not abandoning their loved one, but making more things possible to enjoy your loved ones.
