Cure may occur without healing; Healing may occur without cure.
Cure looks at what sort of disease a person has; Healing looks at what sort of person has the disease.
Cure seeks to conquer pain; Healing seeks to transcend pain.
Cure is taunted by suffering; Healing is taught by suffering.

In the effort to effect healing, some of the special concerns that residents and families face are difficulties associated with placement, physical and mental difficulties, issues of loss and grieving, and maintaining a sense of dignity. Our Christian faith is a central source of healing in these struggles. Luther Manor is unusual among nursing home facilities because we have a full time chaplain devoting his time to our residents and their families.

worship

Since Luther Manor is church owned, spiritual care of all of our residents is important to us. Although our roots are with the seven Lutheran Churches, 50% of our residents are Catholic. Hence we make a conscious effort to see that their spiritual needs are met as well. On Tuesdays at 3:45 PM, a Catholic Mass is celebrated by a local priest. Rosary is offered daily. Anointing is offered twice a year and Eucharistic ministers distribute Eucharist weekly. Our other religious activities are open to all. Sunday worship service is at 9:45, and family members are welcome. There is a Monday hymn sing and Friday prayer time. There are special services conducted according to the church calendar. All of these are televised throughout our facility on our closed circuit channel to those who find it difficult to make it to the chapel. We also begin each weekday morning with a brief devotional time at breakfast.

We may not be able to expect cures, but this is certainly a place for healing.
